The fire that broke out on Sunday in Samarda in Vila Real and resumed on Wednesday afternoon is believed to be under control again tonight, according to Civil Protection.
According to the official website of the National Office for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection (ANEPC), the fire that broke out in the municipality of Vila Real was extinguished at 23:50.
As of 00:10 Thursday, 319 operatives remained on the ground supported by 91 vehicles.
The resurgence of the fire on Wednesday afternoon, triggered by changes in weather conditions, namely the direction and strength of the wind at the site, did not put the houses at risk, said Vila Real’s District Commander of Relief Operations (CODIS), Miguel Fonseca.
The mayor of Vila Real, Rui Santos, counted about 6,000 hectares burned this Wednesday.
