The 30-year-old and his 28-year-old wife had taken a break at the Oberham Süd car park in the municipality of Krenglbach (Wels-Land district) and were sleeping in the car when the side window of the passenger door was suddenly smashed at around 6:30 a.m. Strangers grab the passenger’s handbag, fled to a car parked about 20 meters away and drove off immediately.
The 30-year-old immediately took up the pursuit, but had to stop in the area of the Wels junction because he noticed tire damage and his car was no longer roadworthy. The right rear tire had been punctured, presumably to prevent a possible night trip. The victim saw that the getaway vehicle continued to drive on the A25, Wels autobahn in the direction of Linz at a speed that was far too high.
The investigation is ongoing, the police said on Sunday afternoon.
