The fact that the summer is drawing to a close is now also being felt in the weather: one day before the meteorological change of season on September 1st, Upper Austria will already have a strong autumn on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is expected in large parts of the country.
Before that, however, the start of the week is again friendly: the sun dispels the last cumulus clouds relatively quickly on Monday morning, so that it is dry and warm everywhere by the afternoon at the latest. A few cumulus clouds are only hanging over the southern mountains. “But you would have to be really unlucky to get caught in a shower – there will only be very selective precipitation,” says meteorologist Liliane Hofer from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics. With 28 degrees, bathing weather is announced again in the penultimate week of vacation, which will also continue on Tuesday.
Again, rain is only expected in parts of the mountains, otherwise it will remain dry. “These temperatures should definitely be used for a bathing trip,” says meteorologist Hofer.
That changes radically on Wednesday. A dense cloud cover is gathering and bringing heavy rainfall almost everywhere in Upper Austria. “There won’t be any stormy conditions, but it’s raining heavily,” says Hofer.
Although on Thursday – i.e. the actual meteorological start of autumn – the sun will displace the clouds in many places and it will remain largely dry, the temperatures will not rise above 25 degrees for the rest of the week.
Rainy weekends
After a changeable Friday, the weekend will be rainy again – a pattern that seems familiar. As it has been for a few weeks, it was cloudy last weekend, with up to 50 liters of rain per square meter falling on Sunday. “Currently one could get the impression that the weather is getting worse every Saturday. The weather conditions here change on average every three to four days – at the moment the bad weather always falls on weekends in this rhythm. It’s just bad luck,” says Hofer.
