Live from 9:30 a.m.: Polaschek presents corona rules for the start of school

To the stream (from 9.30 a.m.):

In all likelihood, the coming school year should start for students and teachers without tests and the obligation to wear masks. In the variant management plan of the federal government, these are only planned for the transition to or in scenario 3 (“unfavorable case”), the ministry emphasized on Wednesday. Final coordination with the health department was still ongoing last week.

The past school year had started with a three-week “safety phase” – at that time with the Delta variant, which was associated with more severe disease progression compared to Omikron: During this time, a Covid test had to be taken three times a week and a mask had to be worn outside of the class . Because of the wave with the more contagious omicron variant, these measures were finally extended until the end of February. Masks were compulsory until the beginning of May, and tests were carried out regularly until the beginning of June. About one percent of the more than 30 million PCR school tests were positive.

This time, however, the start of school should be similar to before the start of the corona pandemic. The overriding goal in education is – as in other areas of life – to learn to live with Covid-19, is given as a slogan in the variant management plan. “Restrictions should therefore be reduced to an absolutely necessary minimum and be in line with the regulations in other areas of life.”
