The man had climbed around 6:30 p.m. from the Haslach area via the Brennerriesensteig towards the summit of the 1,602-meter-high “Brennerin”. At an altitude of around 990 meters, he probably slipped, fell over a 60-meter-high rock face and then slid down about 40 meters over steep grass-covered terrain. His backpack got stuck on a tree lying across the street. The climber was thrown over the tree trunk before he came to rest on the steep terrain.
Relatives reported the man missing to the Unterach police station on Sunday. The man’s body was found at 3:30 p.m. as part of a search by the Alpine Police and the Mountain Rescue Service (BRD) and brought down to the valley.
