“In Steyr, the name Dietmar Spanring is associated with the modernization of the cleanliness association and with a wide range of cultural commitments,” says city manager Markus Vogl on the occasion of the 75th birthday of Steyr’s former deputy mayor. Spanring had his birthday on August 19th, now Steyrer SP officially congratulated the jubilee.
Born in Grünburg, he received the ring of honor from the city of Steyr in 2011, two years after his retirement, and was awarded the Victor Adler badge by the SP for his work in 2014. He had been with the SP since 1969 committed. In 1977 he became a works council member at what was then the Steyr works. From 1990 to 2009 he was section chairman in his hometown of Gleink. In addition, he always held positions in the state SPÖ, for example in the control committee. Spanring moved into the Steyr municipal council in 1988, became city councilor in 1994 and vice mayor in 2003. For twelve of these 15 years in the city senate he was in charge of the culture department.
“With Dietmar Spanring as a speaker, Steyr became a modern and open cultural city,” says Vogl in recognition of his work. Among other things, the starting signal for the music festival in Steyr fell during his tenure.
