There is a risk of traffic jams throughout Austria at the weekend

460,000 pupils in eastern Austria have to go back to their schools after this weekend, the same applies to children and young people in the three German states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland and in parts of the Netherlands. If you add the “Airpower 22” in the Upper Styrian Zeltweg, the coming weekend promises to be backlogged on the local roads again, as the ARBÖ forecast in a broadcast on Tuesday.

The hotspots in tourist traffic are therefore the Brenner autobahn (A13) before the Schönberg toll booth and the construction site area near Innsbruck and on the Brenner, the Fernpass route (B179) throughout, especially before the Lermooser tunnel and border tunnel Vils/Füssen, the Pyhrn autobahn (A9) in the construction site area between Deutschfeistritz and Übelbach junctions and in the area between St. Pankraz and Inzersdorf, the Tauernautobahn (A10) in front of the Katschberg tunnel, Tauern tunnel and in the area between the Pongau junction and the Salzburg junction and the Zillertalstraße (B169) in front of the Brettfall tunnel. There are also border waiting times when entering the country, especially in front of the Karawanken tunnel on the Karawankenautobahn (A11), in Nickelsdorf on the Ostautobahn (A4) and in Spielfeld on the Pyhrnautobahn (A9). When leaving the country, you will most likely have to wait before the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border on the Inntalautobahn (A12), in Suben on the Innkreisautobahn (A8) and in Walserberg on the Westautobahn (A1).

Sunday: Traffic jams from early afternoon

On Sunday, traffic jams can probably be expected from the early afternoon. The Ostautobahn (A4) between the Schwechat and Prater junctions, the Südautobahn (A2) in the greater Graz area and between the Guntramsdorf and Vienna junctions, the Südwesttangente (A23), between the Inzersdorf and Handelskai junctions and between the Hirschstetten and St. Marx junctions, the western autobahn (A1), between Sankt Pölten and Vienna, Altmannsdorfer Strasse in Vienna between Altmannsdorfer Ast and Grünbergstrasse, Triester Strasse in Vienna between Computerstrasse and Matzleinsdorfer Platz, and the western entrance to Vienna between Auhof and Schönbrunn Palace.

There is also the “Airpower” on Friday and Saturday at the Hinterstoisser air base in Zeltweg. Around 200 aircraft from 20 nations will inspire around 300,000 visitors. Experience has shown that many of them will travel with their own vehicles. Therefore, there will be traffic jams on the Murtal Schnellstraße (S36), the Friesacher Straße (B317) and on all access roads to the air base on arrival and especially on departure. To make it easier to find a parking space, Park+Ride car parks have been set up in Fisching and Kraubath, from which free shuttle buses run to and from the event site. “Anyone who wants to travel without traffic jams and long waiting times should opt for the train and bus. More detailed information can be found on the Airpower22 homepage at www.airpower.gv.at”, recommended ARBÖ representative Thomas Haider.
