This Friday, the PKP congratulated the MPLA on winning an absolute majority in the general elections in Angola and warned of “intervention operations” being carried out from Portugal to destabilize the country.
In their statement, the communists congratulated the party led by Angolan President João Lourenço and considered that the 51% of the votes won by the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola reflected the recognition by the population of the “historical path and fundamental role” of this political force “in winning independence, protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of the aggression of the apartheid regime”.
In the same note, the PKP “condemns the intervention operations that Portugal is once again aiming to contribute to the destabilization of Angola”, warning of an attempt to “jeopardize the electoral process” by UNITA and other political forces “in the face of their defeat” and “how and in previous situations.
According to the final results released this Friday by the National Electoral Commission of Angola (CNE), the MPLA won with 51% of the vote in the general elections held about a week ago, while the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) received 44% of the vote. .
From the PKP’s point of view, the political forces contesting the election results “do not accept the sovereign will freely and democratically expressed” by the Angolans.
According to the data presented, 44.82% of the 14.4 million voters voted, with 1.67% of the white vote and 1.15% who did not vote.
The MPLA received 3,209,429 votes or 51.17%, electing 124 deputies, while UNITA received 2,756,786 votes, guaranteeing 90 deputies, 43.95% of the total.
The CNE Plenum proclaimed João Lourenço, head of the MPLA list, as President of the Republic of Angola, and Esperanza da Costa, number two, as Vice President.
