Camilo Guevara March died of a heart attack on Monday at the age of 60, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced on Tuesday. “It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Camilo, son of Che and promoter of his ideas,” the president wrote on Twitter.
Guevara March, the director of the study center Che Guevara, while in Havana, was visiting Caracas, Venezuela, when he suffered a heart attack as a result of a pulmonary embolism, according to the Prensa Latina news agency.
He was the eldest of the five children of the Cuban-Argentinian revolutionary Ernesto Guevara, who played a key role in the Cuban revolution in the 1950s and later fought for social justice in South America. Che Guevara was shot dead by the army in Bolivia in 1967. But he continues to be revered as a hero beyond Latin America.
