The fire that broke out this afternoon in Chavez, in the Vila Real area, has more than 110 operatives on site and has already crossed over to the Spanish side, a source from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority told Lusa.
The fire broke out at 2:13 p.m. in Couto de Hervededo, Chavez municipality, and has two active fronts of “considerable size,” he said.
He explained the reason for the reinforcement of funds in the field.
At the moment, the flames are engulfing a section of the forest without endangering settlements, the source said.
He pointed out that the biggest difficulty in fighting the fire, which has already spread to neighboring Spain, is the strength of the wind.
At the site where the fire broke out is the Sanctuary of San Cayetano, which on its official Facebook page said that “there is a lot of anxiety, but funds are concentrated, and fortunately the area of the sanctuary is still protected, although not free from danger.
There are currently 118 operational personnel on the ground, assisted by 38 vehicles and three aircraft.
