A “ferry” with 300 people on board caught fire off the coast of Sweden in the Baltic Sea this Monday, local authorities said. The ship, owned by Stena Scandica, is also carrying dozens of vehicles, and the incident has been confirmed by the Swedish Maritime Administration.
There were no casualties, and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
“There was a fire in the area below deck,” Jonas Franzen, a spokesman for the Swedish Maritime Administration, told France-Presse, adding that three helicopters and seven ships were sent to the scene to evacuate the ship.
The fire alarm was raised at 12:40 p.m. (11:40 a.m. on the Portuguese mainland), according to a spokesman for the agency, quoted by Aftonbladet newspaper.
