The LASK jumped off the shovel

The leaders of the Bundesliga had to go into extra time in the 4-1 win over third division team SC Imst in the second round. The Tyrolean outsider was a few minutes short of the sensation after 90 minutes.

In Imst, the so-called second suit of the LASK was not necessary for future tasks. Robert Zulj missed a penalty just before the break. After the red card against Philipp Ziereis (62’/emergency brake), Armin Hamzic let the underdog flirt with the sensation with his header goal (72′).

Substitute Keito Nakamura saved LASK from premature embarrassment (86th). While the Tyrolean crowd was still celebrating their team for reaching extra time, Florian Flecker gave the atmosphere killer (94′), Nakamura made the decision (104′), Marin Ljubicic the final score (118′).

The second division side FC Dornbirn, however, managed a surprise on the way to the round of 16, eliminating the Bundesliga side Hartberg 3-2.

Dornbirn ensured that the number of Upper House representatives was reduced to nine. One day after Austria Lustenau and Altach, TSV Hartberg retired from the competition. Renan (30th), Jan Stefanon (42nd) and Elvin Ibrisimovic (84th) ensured the 3-2 victory in Vorarlberg. Goals from Eylon Almog (45+2) and Dario Tadic (93) were not enough for Hartberg.

Bundesliga runners-up Sturm defeated Austria Salzburg 3-1 in Graz with brief tremors, WAC confidently reached the round of 16 with a 5-1 win in Deutschlandsberg.

In Graz, the 7,118 spectators, including a good 1,000 from Salzburg, watched a game on one goal. The table leader of the regional league Salzburg did without the defensive battle, but was overwhelmed by the intensity and speed of the runner-up. The recently weak Manprit Sarkaria put the stamp on the atmospheric game with a brace (12th, 79th / penalty) and “assist” to Mathias Hausberger’s own goal (29th).

The Sturm-Elf, who had changed six positions, were negligent with their umpteen chances without Rasmus Höjlund. Alexander Prass alone could have decided the game several times. So Marinko Sorda provided the interim goal (71st) and short suspense in an otherwise one-sided game.

The WAC in Deutschlandsberg did not have to tremble for long. Tai Baribo (8th) and Dario Vizinger (12th) converted two penalties to a reassuring 2-0 lead at the break. Once again Vizinger (51st), Thierno Ballo (77th) and Nikolas Veratschnig (87th) increased from the Carinthian point of view. Andreas Fuchs scored the honor goal (86th) for the club from the Regionalliga Mitte.
