“I can be”: Police are looking for young people

The project with the motto “I can become it” is intended to counteract a shortage of police officers. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (VP) mentioned as one reason for the start in the federal capital that only 61 instead of a possible 250 police trainees will start their training on September 1st. The number of law enforcement officials is not yet worrying, because there are around 31,000 across Austria – more than ever before. “In this legislative period, around 4,300 additional permanent positions will be created,” said Karner.

The campaign does not rely on celebrities or models. “The focus of the campaign is not spectacular special units, but the police officers in the police departments. They are the heart of the police, the security engine for Austria and the first contacts for the population,” said Karner.
