Elias suffers from acute myeloid leukemia. In June, the nine-month-old boy was diagnosed with the serious illness. Since then he has been in treatment and has already undergone chemotherapy. His parents Melina and Severin Bauer are always by his side. They place all their hopes in finding a suitable stem cell donor for their son so that he can recover. “The more people who can be typed, the greater the chance,” says the couple.
That’s why “The Big Band Deluxe”, in which Severin Bauer is the drummer, is organizing a benefit concert at the Shopping Night on Friday, September 9th and, together with the “Geben für Leben” association, is offering a simple option for typing using a cheek swab. The campaign starts at 5 p.m., the concert with classics from the golden swing era takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Minoritenplatz.
Donations from 17 to 45 years
Anybody between the ages of 17 and 45 and who is physically healthy can be considered a stem cell donor. The typing results are then stored in an international database and donors are contacted if a patient is matched. In about 80 percent of the cases, the stem cells are filtered directly from the blood, in the remaining 20 percent bone marrow is taken from the donor.
Simone Lindinger, chairman of “The Big Band Deluxe”, is pleased that several partners are supporting the campaign. In addition to the city of Wels, which raffles nice prizes among the participants in the typification campaign, the traditional Wels ice cream parlor Costantin donates a scoop of ice cream to everyone who can be typified. The Grieskirchner brewery supports with a side bar, so that refreshing drinks are also provided during the concert. The entire net proceeds from the benefit concert will benefit the Bauer family.
