Music from hits to hard rock sounds from the speakers that fill the rides at the Welser Volksfest. It smells like fried food and cotton candy. Excited children’s squeals can be heard, and a colorful pendulum in which ten people are sitting whizzes back and forth over the heads of the folk festival visitors.
The family day at the Wels exhibition center was also very well attended yesterday in the early afternoon. Gradually, the queues in front of the rides got longer and longer. “The weather is perfect, we couldn’t have had it any better”, summarizes the operator of the Tagada. Bright sunshine and cool wind made the temperature comfortable. “Now there are children with their families, and from the age of five or six, more and more young people come”, says the operator. Especially that “Crazy Surf” and the trampolines were particularly popular with the boys. “The three of us rode the ‘Crazy Surf’, we left the trampolining to Marie”says Madeleine Edlmann, who attended the folk festival with her daughter. “The children’s afternoon is a must!”she adds.
Many young people are already out in the afternoon. “What I liked best so far was the ride on the ‘Round Up’ – because it turns so wildly”, says 14-year-old Elias. It’s his first time at the Welser Volksfest and he came all the way from Hinzenbach.
“We’re fully booked, we’ve never had so many rides before”says Exhibition Director Robert Schneider. “Because the last three folk festivals were such a great success despite strict corona measures, the demand from the showmen was high.” Schneider is satisfied with the number of visitors so far, “but we don’t expect the really strong days until the weekend.”
Then, in addition to the rides, the marquee and the wine tasting offer the best entertainment. Today, Saturday, the wine village is ready for night owls from 9 p.m., various DJs will be playing. The morning pint starts at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. (kos/miv)
