Fesap calls for higher wages and pensions in 2023 above inflation rate

The Federation of Public Administration Trade Unions (Fesap) announced this Friday an annual increase in wages and pensions by more than inflation, pointing out that low wages are the main complaints of civil servants.

The annual salary update, along with the revision of the Unified Remuneration Table (TRU), is among the items to be negotiated for 2023 and was publicly presented this Friday, which is also featured in a letter Fesap General Secretary José Abraão sent to Prime Minister António Coste .

In the letter, Fesap (affected by the UGT) states that the political stability of the current legislature “represents an opportunity” to “reorient” dialogue and collective bargaining “to their own headquarters” from where they were “removed by the power of the decision of the governments” of previous legislatures.

Fesap Secretary General José Abraau, given the government’s commitment to increase the minimum wage to 750 euros in 2023 and keep the pension renewal formula next year, will need to raise wages above the inflation rate.

Given that there are “all conditions for negotiations and reaching agreements”, this union structure states that the purpose of these negotiations is not only measures leading to public administration reform, but also “issues requiring more urgent measures.” “.

Fesap also requires food allowance and daily allowance to be updated in line with real life increase and without tax implications, as well as the conclusion of a review of existing and untested occupations and an assessment of wages and career methods.

Among the negotiating issues that Fesap also lists are combating job insecurity, measures to rejuvenate public administration, the adoption of a unified labor relationship, or a review of the regime for access to public administration in order to streamline recruitment processes.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, the Fesap General Secretary emphasizes that it is “necessary” to give an “unequivocal” sign of the end of the low wage policy and stresses that the national minimum wage should not be applied in public administration.
