With earnings of around 58 million euros per year, Ed Sheeran is one of the highest paid singers in the world. But anyone who thinks that Britons only dine in award-winning restaurants and treat themselves to golden steaks, fine caviar and fine wines is mistaken.
In Vienna, where the 31-year-old thrilled a total of more than 120,000 fans in the Ernst Happel Stadium on Thursday and Friday, the international star was in the mood for home-style cooking. Together with four crew members, he paid a visit to the Schnitzelwirt in Neubaugasse on Friday afternoon – and took the time to take a photo with the landlady:

The staff of the renowned tavern was amazed when Sheeran suddenly walked through the door – even if the head of the house didn’t immediately notice who she was dealing with. “Five of them drove up in two dark VW buses. His driver shielded him a bit,” says Schnitzelwirtin Andrea Schröfl in conversation with Ö3. The group then reportedly asked for a quiet table, Sheeran and his companions were seated in the last room of the tavern and the door was locked.
“Inconspicuous, nice and polite”
And what does a world star eat for lunch? Very classic: the multi-millionaire is said to have ordered Wienerschnitzel, potato salad and a large beer. Special wishes? none. Schörfl describes Sheeran as “quiet, inconspicuous, nice and polite”. With a colleague he even “fooled a bit”.
Sheeran also took time to take photos with the inn staff and the patrons he passed. “We made sure that we didn’t bother him too much. We thought he wanted to be left alone,” says Schröfl.
Schnitzel fan Sheeran
It wasn’t just this year that Sheeran discovered his love for breaded meat in Vienna. The singer came out as a schnitzel fan five years ago. At that time he posted a photo from Austria on his Instagram account for a birthday – with schnitzel and beer, of course.

By the way, Sheeran said goodbye to Austria on Saturday on Instagram with the words: “Two nights, 130,000 fans, a lot of schnitzel – what more could you ask for? Thanks Vienna!”
