Unknown pneumonia in Tucumán
As published by the Reuters agency, Dr. Michael Osterholm, an infectious disease expert at the University of Minnesota, stated that, since the lungs are heavily involvedthe cause is probably something the patients inhaled.
The specialist pointed out that the “mysterious diseases” occur sometimes and most of the time they can be explained by some local outbreak that does not have pandemic implications.
Initially, five health workers had been registered and a patient who was treated in the intensive care room of the clinic, whose symptoms appeared between August 18 and 22.
Days later, health authorities in Tucumán reported another three cases, bringing the total to 9, including three deaths. The three people who died had other health problems. This Friday the tenth contagion was registered.
