As was announced yesterday, the police carried out several identity checks in the area of the new Braunau train station on Thursday, September 1st. Among those checked was a 25-year-old man with a backpack. In it, officers found a significant amount of synthetic drugs. These were already pre-packaged and, according to the police, should have been sent to customers on the Darknet.
The alleged drug dealer then became more and more aggressive. At first he tried to prevent the police officers from seizing the drugs through acts of resistance, then he suddenly fled on foot. He ran from the train station towards a residential area. The escape attempt was crowned with short-lived success. When he was arrested, the 25-year-old once again put up a massive fight.
During the investigation, it turned out that the man was in the process of sending several drug packages to buyers in Austria. Based on the data carriers and shipping materials that were secured, the investigators are certain that the 25-year-old has been active as a “darknet seller” for months.
He is said to have sent a total of half a kilogram of narcotics such as cocaine or marijuana to German parcel shops. In addition, other drugs as well as shipping notes, sales lists and packaging materials were secured in a room in Braunau. Various buyers in Austria could be found in this way. These will be prosecuted separately.
According to Alois Ebner, spokesman for the Ried public prosecutor’s office, the 25-year-old was taken into custody. He faces a trial for drug trafficking and attempted resistance to state authority. “The arrested person is officially known because of various relevant drug offenses,” said Ebner when asked by OÖN. It is generally noticeable that narcotic drugs are increasingly being ordered on the Internet, especially on the Darknet, according to Ebner. (tst)
