The local chief turned 70 on Saturday, and at the beginning of October the celebrant was mayor of Weyer for a quarter of a century. On Friday, there was a big celebration at Gasthof Stubauer in Gaflenz with more than 350 guests. “The atmosphere was unique and full of warmth – I was happy that so many came,” Klaffner tells OÖN. In addition to family and friends, fellow mayors from Steyr, Laussa, Maria Neustift, Großraming, Reichraming and Ternberg also celebrated. “From this round I got a Segway tour through Steyr as a gift,” says Klaffner.
In Weyer, the planned bypass is the number one topic at the moment. The ground-breaking ceremony was at the beginning of July, and the tunnel-breaking ceremony will be celebrated on September 24th. “It’s a project that I’ve been committed to from the start,” says the local manager. After the bypass is completed in 2025, the challenge will be “to make the town center so interesting that something will continue to happen here”. Klaffner says on the silver mayoral anniversary: ”A guest at my party put it like this: You can feel that you like the people – and the people like you.” That hits the point. The 70-year-old also has a clear stance on the current challenges: “The times are not easy, but there are always solutions – this confidence must now be radiated and conveyed to people.” (dmf)
