He may have lost tens of thousands of euros in the process. The man has now filed a complaint, as the Styrian State Police Headquarters announced on Monday. The Upper Styrian wanted to invest in cryptocurrencies between 2016 and 2022 – motivated by telephone contact, emails and internet advertising. He transferred his money to various foreign accounts, trading and transfer platforms. In another scam, he was promised a €100,000 prize for which he paid “handling fees and taxes”.
The perpetrators also had remote access to the man’s laptop, which he had previously granted them. When the matter finally struck him as dubious, he reported to the police. The perpetrators’ approach is likely to be the modus operandi Cyber Trading Fraud (CTF). According to the police, further surveys are being conducted.
