But the judge said his release served the interest public in the United States, as the case involves an unprecedented FBI raid on the home of a former president.
Trump, on fire
The court order for the raid cited three criminal statutes, including one governed by the Law of Espionagewhich makes it a crime to illegally obtain or retain national security information, and another on the obstruction of a federal investigation.
Donald Trump, who is considering running for president again in 2024, has vehemently denounced the FBI raid.
“These thugs politicians they had no right under the Presidential Records Act to storm Mar-a-Lago and steal anything in sight, including passports and privileged documents,” he said on social media Friday.
“They even broke into my safe with a safecracker. Can you believe that?” she wrote.
“Right now we are living in a lawless country, which also happens to be a nation failed!”
The former president filed a lawsuit Monday urging a court to appoint an independent party to review files seized in the FBI raid for materials protected by personal privilege.
This could potentially block investigators’ access to the documents.
The former president did not present his lawsuit before the federal court of Fort LauderdaleFlorida, which was the one that issued the original order, but in the most distant Fort piercewhose sole judge was appointed by him.
