How much money is there to earn in the Champions League this year

An unbelievable two billion euros will be paid out in the 2022/2023 season in the European premier class. For participating in the group stage alone, each starter will receive 15.64 million euros from the 500.5 million UEFA pot. There is 2.8 million euros for every win in the preliminary round and 930,000 euros for every draw. 600.6 million in fixed UEFA funds are distributed in this way.

If a club marches through the group stage with six wins and wins the final, the expected figure is 84.27 million. But that’s not all: In addition, the clubs are rewarded for their performance in the European Cup over the past ten years. There is also the so-called market pool, which is estimated at a total of 300.3 million euros and which includes the television money. There, half of the TV revenue is divided in line with the performance in the league.

How does the future look?

In the future, the financial cake of the Champions League will even increase: From the 2024/25 season there will be 100 more games in the reformed premier class, 19 instead of 15 game days will then be due to the introduction of the league format (“Swiss system”) Program. 36 instead of 32 teams are involved. A look at the sale of the media rights for the three European Cup competitions reveals how much money can then be raised: UEFA will collect around 15 billion euros for three seasons (2024/25 to 2026/27) – for the three before that it “only” 9.1 billion.
