The cooperative announced this in a broadcast. One is still reluctant to give details, because the Federal Competition Authority still has to approve the deal. It was considered likely that there would be a majority for the merger (we reported):
Gmundner Molkerei has been collaborating with Molkerei Jäger at the Gmunden site since the beginning of 2021: Mozzarella specialist Jäger produces pasta filata products there, Gmundner Molkerei provides the staff and the building. Jäger has been active in the Austrian milk market for 20 years. The new joint venture will have around 800 employees and around 3,000 dairy farms and will process around 800 million liters of raw milk in the future.
A merger of the dairy with SalzburgMilch was originally considered in Gmunden. In the middle of the negotiations, however, an offer from Milchwerke Jäger fell through in April. The management preferred this variant to the Austrian solution, which would have made the new company the second largest milk processor in the country after Berglandmilch. However, the approximately 2,000 dairy farmers and members in the General Assembly had the last word.
