The RZO cattle competence center in Freistadt was the meeting place for the international Fleckvieh scene at the weekend. Several thousand visitors on site and countless more via live stream followed this presentation and award of outstanding cattle worldwide. The importance of this show among breeders was also shown in the hall itself: A delegation from the Ukraine was present in Freistadt, as were breeders from Mexico, Australia and Brazil. All in all, breeders from 32 countries came to Freistadt to marvel at the finest Fleckvieh cows in Austria.
The first highlight of the weekend was the final in the FleckScore World Cup, in which Josef Gaugl from Styria came closest to the assessment requirements and thus won the World Cup ahead of Johannes Krug from Germany. At the young breeders’ competition, Michaela Kitzberger from Waldburg secured the type competition in this category with her young heifer “Glückskeks”.
“Cloud Dancer” for 39,000 euros
The grand finale of the evening was the elite auction, where five male and twelve female animals were offered. The bull “Wolkentänzer”, bred in Styria, was the most expensive animal auctioned for 39,000 euros. There was also a hot bidding duel for “Stella” by Günter Glettler from Styria, which was ultimately sold to Bavaria for 26,400 euros. The blessing of the animals, carried out by parish assistant Irmi Sternbauer, opened the second day of presentations, which focused on cows from all over Austria. 115 Fleckvieh cows were presented in 18 groups and judged by judge Josef Zieglgansberger from Bavaria. The big winners of this show were the federal states of Carinthia and Styria: Carinthia won two federal championships, Styria one.
The Beef Fair, which was organized by the Upper Austrian Cattle Breeding Association (RZO) together with the Austrian Cattle Exchange, once again proved to be a magnet for visitors and at which the best grilled beef specialties were served to the visitors.
