The Schwanenstadt homestead is showing the “Football since 1946” exhibition until September 23. The honorary president of the sports club, Georg Klein, has collected numerous photos, documents and exhibits to chronicle the eventful history of the Schwanenstadt football club with its many ups and downs.
At the opening of the exhibition a few days ago, more than 300 visitors took a journey through 76 years of the sports club’s history. Among the guests were numerous former players from Schwanenstadt, many of whom were happy to see their “old” teammates again after many years. Interested visitors included Gerhard Götschhofer, President of Upper Austria. Football Association, representatives of the referee committee and Schwanenstadt Mayor Doris Staudinger.
Georg Klein recalled that since its inception, the club has had ten different names, “used up” 48 coaches and handled 10,200 games. Curious detail: The 1st SC ball took place in the former swimming pool on Salzburger Straße, where the water had been drained from the pool and the pool was used as a dance floor. “The exhibition commemorates the people who supported the club for almost 80 years,” said President Rudolf Staudinger, emphasizing the voluntary work in football. But he also addressed the commercialization of football.
Franz Hochhauser, the last surviving founding member of the sports club, was honored, as were former players Kurt Lehner, Nicki Koller and Otto Huemer. True to style, the chairman of the Heimathaus, Rudolf Franzmayr, kicked off the exhibition, which – as mentioned at the beginning – can be seen until September 23 (Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.).
