Forecast: Fuel again more expensive than two euros

Diesel costs around 1.94 euros per liter nationwide and premium 1.73 euros. If the government has its way, fuel will become nine or eight cents more expensive in less than a month.

“If the prices remain at the current level, we will see diesel prices of just over two euros again in October due to the additional CO2 pricing,” says Martin Grasslober, transport economics expert at the ÖAMTC. If the government sticks to the introduction of the additional CO2 tax, the club believes that the mineral oil tax (MöSt) should be reduced at least to the same extent. “In this way, the price spiral would not continue to spiral upwards,” explained Grasslober.

The drop in fuel prices – especially for diesel – was only short-lived. “The reduction that was seen at the pumps until mid-August has since been almost entirely offset by price increases. The average price for diesel is currently only one cent below that of early August,” the ÖAMTC expert calculated in a broadcast today before.
