In a report consulted by AFP, days before a meeting of IAEA governors, the director general, the Argentine Raphael Grossiis “increasingly concerned” by the fact that “there has been no progress” in clarifying the past presence of nuclear material in three undeclared facilities.
For this reason, the report asks the Islamic Republic “to respond to its legal obligations” as soon as possible.
The issue is one of the harshest points of the diplomatic negotiation that began in April 2021 in Vienna to reactivate the 2015 deal. That agreement was intended to guarantee the civilian nature of the Iranian atomic program through drastic limitations on it, in exchange for relief from Economic sanctions in force against Iran.
The deal collapsed in 2018 when USA announced his retirement, at the initiative of his then president donald trump.
Iran demanded again this Tuesday the closure of the IAEA investigation, in order to reach a new agreement with all parties (United KingdomUSA, France, China, Russia, Germany and the European Union).
In another report, the IAEA noted that Iran has continued to stockpile enriched uranium in recent months. The Iranian stock of enriched uranium exceeds the authorized limit by 19 times by the 2015 international agreement, he said.
Tehran raised its total reserves as of August 21 to 3,940.9 kilograms, compared to 3,809.3 kilograms in mid-May and well above the committed cap of 202.8 kilograms.
