Most recently, several surveys had solidified a disastrous picture for the Tyrolean ÖVP: They predicted a fall to 30 percent or even below in the state elections on September 25th. In the 2018 election, the ÖVP under Governor Günther Platter got 44.26 percent.
A current survey by GMK on behalf of the district newspapers and regional media in Tyrol now sees the VP with top candidate Anton Mattle at 35 to 39 percent, although the range of fluctuation is given as +/-4.5 percentage points. In this survey, the FPÖ comes to 15 to 19 percent, the SPÖ to 14 to 18.
The Greens are shown at eight to twelve percent, the Neos are therefore at seven to nine percent, and the Fritz list at GMK is significantly lower than in previous surveys at five to seven percent. The MFG survey predicts three to five percent.
With this data, both black-red and black-blue would go out as a coalition of two, but Mattle has already ruled out a coalition with the FPÖ. Turquoise, he recently emphasized, is the ÖVP in the federal government, in Tyrol the party color is still black.
Platter surprisingly handed over the scepter at the state party leadership to Mattle in June, who has been trying to raise his profile ever since. The Tyrolean VP saw the new data as the result of the “successful start of the election campaign”. The FPÖ, on the other hand, senses opportunities for a change in Tyrol for the first time this year and is applying for party leader Markus Abwerzger as a candidate for governor.
