Approximately 35,000 coca leaf producers go to the Government Headquarters to demand the eradication of coca leaf cultivation in unauthorized areas, as well as to request the release of the people who were detained during the mobilizations that took place in recent months, according to the Bolivian agency ABI.
Just hours after being in La Paz, the leaders of the march presented an ultimatum to the authorities, to which they must respond on Thursday morning.
“He was given an ultimatum. If that stall is not closed (referring to a stall in an unauthorized area in the town of town The Carmen), we are not responsible, our brother partners are going to take the initiative”, threatened the president of the Association of Coca Leaf Producers (Adepcoca), Freddy crushed.
However, the Minister of Rural Development and Lands of Bolivia, Remmy Gonzalezhas arrived during the early hours of this Thursday to the municipality of Kalajahuira with the intention of opening spaces for dialogue with the leadership of the march.
“The invitation has been made to the leadership, and they say they have to consult with the bases, we hope they consult, and if they approve, we are ready,” González reported, according to the aforementioned agency.
The march from Yungas arrived this wednesday until Urujaragateway to the city of La Paz.
The conflict has been dragging on since 2017 and in recent months it has intensified with violent demonstrations with the detonation of dynamite and other homemade explosives by the coca growers of the Machicado line.
The residents of Villa El Carmen were forced to set up barricades to avoid more violence in the confrontation with the police officers who are in the middle of the opposing groups.
