Energoatom announced that the sixth and last block of the plant was also taken off the grid. Fighting between Ukrainian and Russian troops repeatedly breaks out around the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. The site of the power plant located in the town of Enerhodar was hit repeatedly.
International observers from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are warning of a catastrophe due to the unstable situation in the nuclear facility. The plant therefore no longer has an external power supply for cooling reactor cores and nuclear waste. Kyiv and Moscow blame each other for shelling the facility.
The nuclear power plant was also the subject of a telephone conversation between French President Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian colleague Volodymyr Zelenskyj on Saturday evening. According to a statement from the Élysée Palace, Macron again advocated the withdrawal of Russian troops from the nuclear power plant. Both Presidents expressed their support for the work of the IAEA experts on the spot.
In the past few days, Ukraine had achieved surprisingly great successes against the occupiers as part of an offensive. On Saturday they announced their withdrawal from key cities in the Kharkiv region, and there were also reports of advances in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
