At least that was the result of a survey by the Unique Research Institute commissioned by the “Kronen Zeitung”. According to this, the government partners ÖVP and FPÖ are on par almost a year after the state elections. The ÖVP dropped to 28 percent, the FPÖ shot up to 29 percent (max. fluctuation 3.5 percent).
The blacks have lost a good percentage points compared to their state election result in 2021 (37.6 percent) and the blues (19.8 percent) have gained ten percentage points. LH deputy and FPÖ state party leader Manfred Haimbuchner was pleased on Sunday, “even if we always take polls with caution”. At the same time, he emphasized that “we also sense the broad approval in talks with the population.”
SPÖ, Greens and Neos almost unchanged
According to the survey, every tenth ÖVP voter in 2021 switched to the FPÖ. For the political scientist Peter Hajek, the attitude of Governor Thomas Stelzer on the issue of sanctions against Russia is also a reason. Several times he had questioned the accuracy, as the FPÖ has been doing for a long time. But: “Voters would rather go to Schmied than Schmiedl,” Hajek is quoted in the newspaper as saying.
The values for SPÖ (18 percent), Greens (13 percent), MfG (six percent) and NEOS (five percent) remained almost unchanged in the first year after the election. The institute surveyed 800 Upper Austrians aged 16 and over between August 29 and September 8.
Stelzer and the sanctions
Governor Thomas stilts (VP) and the sanctions against Russia – this relationship remains ambivalent. True says stilts in the OÖN summer interview again, he hold the sanctions “basically correct”. At the same time, he emphasizes that the price that we pay for it from an economic point of view “must not be immeasurable”. And we should not “unduly endanger our social cohesion”. Exactly where he draws the line remains unclear.
