Texas displaced more than 10,000 immigrants to the east of the country since April

The governor, widely criticized for his aggressive anti-abortion and anti-immigration stance, said that the departure of these migrants who crossed illegally from Mexico to the east of the country provided much-needed relief to overwhelmed communities on the southern border of the United States.

The increased number of admissions put a great strain on local, state and federal resources on the southern border. Yesterday, the Democratic mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, declared a public emergency in the capital due to the arrival of thousands of undocumented immigrants in groups from Texas and Arizona.

From the start of fiscal year 2022 in October through July 31, nearly two million migrants were apprehended after crossing from Mexico, up from 1.3 million in the same period a year earlier, according to figures from the US Customs and Protection Office.
