A first advance of autumn – this is how Alexander Ohms of ZAMG describes the weather in the next two weeks. But before it gets cool again, it will be warm again until Wednesday, like late summer. The week starts with lots of sunshine and maximum temperatures of up to 24 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday and Wednesday it will be a bit warmer with up to 25 degrees, but these days are no longer completely cloudless. Despite possible cloud fields, it will remain mostly friendly and warm.
Autumn is knocking
Thursday will be changeable, with isolated rain showers possible during the night. During the day there is still a chance of sun, in the afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible. The next cold front arrives from the north, bringing cold air to Austria. Friday will be rainy in the mountains, Ohms is forecasting a few showers and a cold north-west wind in the lowlands.
The low point will be reached at the weekend. It will be unstable, especially at the edge of the Alps it will rain again and again, the snow line drops to 1500 meters. The maximum temperatures on Saturday are 15 degrees. Too cool for this time of year – this is how Ohms describes the weather conditions. “That’s not so great for the heating costs, nobody wants that this year,” says the meteorologist.
The coming week will also be cool, but the weather will be friendlier again. The nights stay cool – the Mühlviertel is not far away from frost at night. “From the end of September, a stable high-pressure weather situation usually sets in – it will certainly not remain so cold and damp.” In the so-called Indian summer, the sun brings pleasant afternoons with around 20 degrees Celsius.

The ZAMG forecast for Austria:
In the west and south it becomes under weak high-pressure influence at Monday first increasingly sunny, but in some basins and valleys there are early fog patches. The north and east of the country will initially remain under the influence of a weak low pressure, which means that individual rain showers will pass through again during the course of the day and the sun will not come into its own as often. The wind will be weak to moderate, mainly from directions around the north. There are also early temperatures of seven to 15 degrees and maximum values of 18 to 25 degrees.
The morning also runs on Tuesday mostly sunny, in the afternoon clouds from a warm front make themselves felt, especially in the north and east of the country, but it remains largely dry. The wind close to the ground often blows only weakly, from inconsistent directions. After six to 13 degrees in the morning hours, daily highs of between 21 and 28 degrees are forecast, with the highest values in the west and south.
Of the Wednesday starts with the clouds of a warm front, which also bring occasional rain, especially north of the main Alpine ridge and in the north and east. In the afternoon the clouds become less. The precipitation shifts to the edge of the Alps. General local rain showers are only to be planned for towards the evening. The wind comes from southeast to west and blows only weakly to moderately. On the northern side of the Alps, a temporary föhn south wind will blow. In the morning it is eleven to 18 degrees. The maximum daily temperatures are then reached at 23 to 29 degrees, it is warmest in south-eastern and southern Styria.
At the Thursday Austria then lies in a tight westerly current. With this, dense clouds move through from the west in quick succession, which repeatedly bring short rain showers, and sometimes thunderstorms in the mountains and hills. The sun is still visible between the clouds, at least for a short time. The prevailing wind direction is west, from which moderate to brisk westerly winds blow. It is twelve to 21 degrees in the morning, the afternoon peaks range from west to east between 21 and 27 degrees.
The Eastern Alps are located on Friday under the influence of interference. This means a lot of dense clouds in addition to only short sunny periods. One or two rain showers are always to be expected. However, most of the showers are south of the main Alpine ridge and in south-eastern Austria. Occasionally, individual thunderstorms are also stored here over the mountains. The wind comes from west to north-west and occasionally freshens up moderately, especially in the north and east. In the morning it is still eleven to 18 degrees and with only 14 to 21 degrees the maximum values are already reached.
