The decision has been made: The citizens’ list “pro Ottensheim” has nominated Deputy Mayor Michaela Kaineder as the top candidate for the mayoral elections on December 4th. The ÖVP had previously announced its decision to send Deputy Mayor Maria Hagenauer into the race to succeed Mayor Franz Füreder (VP), who died in August.
As mayor, Michaela Kaineder wants “to be close to the people and to work in a clear and structured manner,” as she says in a first reaction. The 35-year-old AHS teacher and mother of three has been involved in the Ottensheim municipal council since September 2021. She enjoys “the joint development of projects and the exchange with people on an equal footing”.
Her parents instilled in her the desire and urge to actively participate. Having grown up in Alberndorf in der Riedmark, Kaineder has been living in Ottensheim for seven years now, following stops in Linz, Innsbruck, the USA, Spain and Ghana. “We deliberately chose Ottensheim as the center of our lives because this place exudes an incomparable liveliness and attractiveness and we feel very welcome here with our skills and ideas,” says Kaineder.
“Indispensable Management Qualities”
For Ingrid Rabeder-Fink, parliamentary group leader of the Bürgerliste pro O., Kaineder brings “indispensable management qualities” to the mayor’s office – in addition to negotiating skills, expertise and result orientation, also resilience. The former deputy mayor and candidate for mayor from last year, Klaus Hagenauer, is convinced that with a female mayor, Michaela Kaineder, future-oriented local politics would be possible again: “She hears every voice and also the nuances, supports the people here with all her heart and is the chance for a successful future.”
