Tomorrow the OÖ Nachrichten will be all about Corona

Virologists expect another corona wave in the coming months. How should we prepare for this? Should all Austrians over the age of twelve be vaccinated for the fourth time? Does it make sense to get refreshed with the new “Omicron vaccine” now? Should you voluntarily put on the mask indoors and on public transport in autumn to protect yourself and others?

Corona expert Bernd Lamprecht, geriatrician Peter Dovjak and dermatologist and allergist Wolfram Hötzenecker will answer these and many other questions during the OÖN health tour on September 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Promenaden Galerien in Linz. The experts already agree on one point: “Vaccination is and remains the most important measure for everyone who wants to protect themselves in the long term from a severe course of corona disease.”

Annually adjusted vaccine

In addition, the doctors are of the opinion that the corona vaccination will be adapted annually to the new strains – such as now to Omikron. As has been the case with influenza vaccination for many years. This vaccination protection is essential for people over the age of 60 and for people with serious previous illnesses or a poor immune system, because the immune system changes over the years and reacts less well to vaccinations. Bernd Lamprecht, head of the clinic for pulmonary medicine at the Kepler University Hospital, considers fear of the vaccine to be unfounded: “The vaccines have been tried and tested and effectively protect against serious illness.”

Experts expect the number of infections to increase as soon as we start living more indoors again. Incidentally, you should get the fourth stitch no earlier than six months after the last corona vaccination. This currently also applies regardless of whether you have had an omicron infection during this period or not.

More information about the event:

On the OÖN health tour, Upper Austrians get well-founded first-hand medical information. The various subject areas are explained in a way that is easy to understand during “Health Talks”. Visitors also have the opportunity to ask questions themselves and to get in touch with competent doctors personally.

The event on the topic “Corona – How will autumn be?” will take place on Thursday, September 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Upper Austria News Forum in the Promenaden Galerien in Linz. At the same time, the state of Upper Austria is offering a vaccination route from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in these premises.

Success story: The Upper Austria News Health Tour began exactly seven years ago and was attended by thousands of people across the country. After the corona-related break, the series of events will now be continued.
