The spectators were offered top-class tennis on the final weekend of the Steyr city championship. Kevin Waldner lived up to his role as favorite in the men’s singles. The 37-year-old from UTC Casa Moda Steyr prevailed in the final, which had to be played at the Rottenbrunner tennis court due to the weather, against his team-mate Stefan Minichberger, who was five years his senior, 7:6, 6:3 and was crowned Steyr city champion for the first time.
A total of 58 players took part in the title fights in eight competitions. The hosting club from Gleink not only provided the winner in the men’s singles, but also the winner of the age group competition 40 plus with Wilfrid Wetzl. Wetzl beat Christian Theiss twice in the tie-break. And the men’s doubles, in which Minichberger and his partner Simon Hinterplattner were victorious against Waldner and Martin Mitterhuber, was also an internal UTC affair.
In the 60 plus competition, Günther Böhm (ATSV Steyr) won the final against Hermann Lindner (Grün Weiß Steyr), the senior doubles were won by Kurt Metzbauer and Franz Hubmer from TC Grün Weiß. In the first mixed doubles event, Alexander Baumgartner (Forelle Steyr) and Nina Walter (ATSV Steyr) won the title. The two ITN framework competitions were won by Thomas Winkelmayr and Peter Hodnik. City Councilor Christian Baumgarten thanked the hosting club and held the award ceremony with tournament director Erich Ganglmayer and chairman Philipp Infanger.
