Firefighters delivered extremely hot wheel duels

Last weekend the sportiest firefighters in Austria showed up at their cycling championships at Lake Attersee. The winner of the 29th edition, which took place in Schörfling for the first time this year, was Markus Gubert from FF Radenthein/Carinthia. Verena Hofstadler from FF Friedberg/Styria won the women’s event. The team classification went to the team from FF St. Roman in the Upper Austrian district of Schärding.

A total of 270 participants from all over Austria started in the Schörflinger village of Kammer. Along the 55-kilometer route, a difference in altitude of 700 meters had to be overcome. The route ran along the Attersee to Steinbach, then via the Großalmstraße to the Taferlklause and via Neukirchen near Altmünster and Pinsdorf back to Schörfling.

FF comrade Gubert reached the finish line after 1:21:47 hours, Hofstadler was back in Schörfling as the fastest lady after 2:12:49 hours. But it was also hot in the guest class: Daniel Hochstraßer from the local cycling club Atterbiker was the winner of the non-firefighters with the fastest time of the day of 1:21:10 hours. The women’s victory in the guest class also went to a local hero: With 1:35:36 hours, Stefanie Lisko, also from the Atterbiker cycling club, won the day’s women’s race.
