PIPE BACH. There has been a hospital in Rohrbach for 40 years: it was opened on September 4, 1982 after five years of construction. The corresponding decision by the state government dates back 50 years and dates back to 1972. Since then, 25,000 people have been born in the Rohrbach hospital. “That’s half the district of Rohrbach,” summarizes Rohrbach-Berg’s mayor on the occasion of the anniversary. 136 operations were performed during this time. After all, around 100,000 patients are cared for in the hospital every year – from birth to the end of their lives.

Today, 670 people are employed at the Rohrbach site. At first there were 178. Eight of them are still in the building, one of them is commercial director Leopold Preining: “I am proud of how the clinic has developed since we started in 1982. From a small, fine team with a pioneering spirit and a high level of commitment, the house has developed into a healthcare hub for the entire district.”

From a medical point of view, today’s clinic can no longer be compared with the hospital of the 1980s: “From a medical point of view, increased efforts will be required in the next few years due to the difficult personnel situation in order to maintain the extensive diagnostic and therapeutic range that already exists and to meet the respective expand knowledge accordingly. In view of the demographic development of the population, plans are in place to rededicate acute geriatrics and remobilization to a department with 28 beds,” Medical Director Wolfgang Tenschert is already looking to the future.

Personnel recruitment is becoming more difficult

Although one is still well positioned in terms of personnel, the topic of recruiting employees is becoming more and more urgent – especially in nursing. The group of nursing staff has now grown to more than 380 employees and represents the largest professional group in the hospital. “Satisfied nursing staff are very important to me. We have to pay more and more attention to the fact that private and professional life can be reconciled,” says Nursing Director Christa Kneidinger. A current part-time share of around 70 percent among employees confirms this approach.

MRI and youth rehab

Since it was founded in 1982, the clinic and the services it offers have grown steadily. Milestones of the recent past were the opening of the department for acute geriatrics and remobilization and the magnetic resonance tomograph, which has been operated in cooperation with the ÖGK since 2019. There is also the kokon rehabilitation center for children and young people, which is operated in close cooperation with the Rohrbach Clinic, and the new outpatient specialist care for certain eye diseases in cooperation with the Kepler University Clinic.

“40 years of the Rohrbach Clinic means 40 years of modern medical care in the Mühlviertel. With their professional skills and their personal commitment, all professional groups make a significant contribution to the recovery of patients and to improving the quality of life in the region. Because comprehensive and high-quality basic medical care must be available in Upper Austria without gaps and close to where you live,” says health officer Deputy Governor Christine Haberlander in her birthday wishes.

“The founding of this clinic and the investments and expansion of the range of services made in recent years were and are of enormous importance for modern, high-quality and local care for the population in the district and beyond. However, the pandemic in particular has also made the enormous importance of the clinic for basic care visible to everyone,” says Franz Harnoncourt, CEO of Oberösterreichische Gesundheitsholding.
