Thomas Geierspichler, one of the figureheads in local disabled sports, was one of eight wheelchair users at the Wels Rowing Club’s para-rowing day on Tuesday, which took place in cooperation with Gernot Gruber from Invacare.
While some first familiarized themselves with the rowing ergometer, others immediately got into the single or double scull – depending on their handicap. Some participants have already shown great interest, would like to take part in competitions as soon as possible and will already be at the start of the upcoming rowing ergometer championship in Vienna.
Those responsible for the club emphasize that rowing is one of the few sports in which inclusion is lived. The same requirements apply to all competitors, which is why training will continue in the future together with the RC Wels racing team. The plans for this have already been finalised.
The Wels rowing president Florian Fritsch and Gruber handed over 500 euros each for the para and youth teams of the RC Wels.
Whether young or old, with or without physical limitations, the Wels Rowing Club welcomes new members. All information at www.ruderclub-wels.at
