Energy prices: SP mayors are demanding solutions from the federal and state governments

At a meeting of the red local and city leaders in the district of Steyr, there was an exchange of experiences regarding energy prices. The mayors Günther Steindler (Ternberg), Richard Kerbl (Sierning), Gerhard Klaffner (Weyer) as well as Mayoress Daniela Chimani (Pfarrkirchen) and Steyr City Councilor Katrin Auer took part in the meeting in Ternberg. According to Steyr’s city manager Markus Vogl, the mayors have unanimously made one demand: “We expect solutions from the state and from the federal government.”

A partial tenfold increase in electricity prices is not affordable for many municipalities, emphasizes Vogl: “Rapid support from the federal and state governments is needed here. Since the energy market does not work under the current framework conditions, fundamental adjustments are also needed. The SP is clearly in favor of regulating the energy market.”

At the local level, Vogl and his SP counterparts advocate more cooperation: “For example, with infrastructure such as saunas, ice skating rinks and indoor pools. That would be in the interests of users, sports clubs and also in terms of a healthy range of exercise. Of course, a uniform master plan would be ideal.”
