The now 47-year-old ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid kicker waited in line for more than 13 hours to finally see the coffin on Friday in Westminster Hall of the British Parliament in London. Beckham has visited the Queen several times in recent years.
“We all want to be here together, we all want to experience something where we celebrate the Queen’s amazing life,” said Beckham. Due to the large crowds, entry into the line on Friday was stopped for a few hours. A waiting time of at least 14 hours was to be expected. The funeral will then take place on Monday.
Numerous people waiting tried to take a photo of the former England international – and forgot to go on. Pictures showed Beckham with a blue cap on his head and an umbrella in his hand.
“I feel a little sorry for him but he’s taking it easy,” tweeted eyewitness Jules Birkby. Another user, citing her best friend’s mother, confirmed that Beckham, like everyone else, queued for hours.
