The cause of the accident is not yet known. The man was flown to a special clinic in Bavaria.
A Polish group of five was diving at the “Ofen” entrance in Steinbach am Attersee (Vöcklabruck district) when one of the men suddenly had problems. A second man noticed this and helped him surface. However, the 54-year-old sank again before the divers could bring him ashore together. After being rescued, the casualty was conscious and was flown to the accident clinic in Murnau (Bavaria), which has a pressure chamber.
The diving accident is the second this year when diving into the oven, as a police spokesman confirmed. In August, a diving student died due to a heart problem during a dive in Unterach am Attersee.
