Big brands like Burberry and Raf Simons, among the most anticipated this season, withdrew from the event from September 16 to 20, but for the smaller ones it is complicated.
“The fashion shows and presentations, which are the commercial part, in which designers show their collections to the international media, to retailers, to stylists (…), are part of the world fashion calendar. It cannot be moved,” Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, told Reuters.
“London is a platform for amazing creative businesses, a lot of independent businesses and they’ve already committed spending. So we have to make sure we support them so they can continue.”
Among the planned tributes is a book of condolences from the fashion industry, which once saw Elizabeth sitting front row at a London show, and fashionistas will join in a national moment of reflection – a minute’s silence. on Sunday night at 20:00 (1900 GMT) before the Christopher Kane parade.
On Thursday night, designer Daniel W. Fletcher held a moment of silence before sending his first model out in a black suit and black bracelet.
“I thought opening the event was important to mark that moment,” Fletcher told London’s Evening Standard newspaper.
Spanish sustainable clothing brand Sohuman ended its show on Friday with models, eyes made up as if crying, holding a photo of Isabel and drawings of the crown or “RIP” written on their hands.
Designer Javier Aparici’s colorful collection consisted of dresses in bold hues or floral prints.
“After the pandemic, the situation around the world is very complicated,” he told Reuters. “And we think it’s important to empower women with lots of colorful flowers, attitude and energy.”
Turkish designer Bora Aksu also held a minute’s silence before his show, presenting his usual range of ruffled feminine dresses, as well as military-style jackets and hats.
