During their time as management consultants, Lars Stäbe and Josef Vollmayr spent more than 500 nights in various hotels around the world. The two Germans experienced several times what it means to sleep in bad beds, to be confronted with waiting times or to have to be annoyed about the lack of equipment.
In 2018, Stäbe and Vollmayr took this as an opportunity to found their start-up Limehome. The Munich-based company rents apartments and furnishes them as apartments for short- and long-term rent – and is on an expansion course. There are now more than 100 locations in four countries and 150 employees.
The company is now also present in Linz. Locations are on Schillerstrasse, Friedrichstrasse and Hopfengasse. There are also apartments operated by Limehome in Germany, the Netherlands and Spain. The investors HV Holtzbrinck Ventures, Lakestar, Picus Capital and Global Growth Capital are providing financial backing for the start-up and have so far provided around 40 million euros.
The difference to traditional hotel visits is that Limehome has no reception, no restaurant and no spa or anything like that, say the founders. The focus is on stays in design apartments. Customers check-in and check-out digitally, and the billing process is also handled entirely digitally.
The prices are calculated automatically for a year in advance according to demand, the market price and the current occupancy at the locations. On days with high demand, such as at trade fairs or major events, the price increases automatically.
