Seven adults, three children: smuggler stopped and arrested

A Schärdinger patrol saw a van on Saturday at around 5:30 a.m. in the city of Schärding. When attempting to stop the vehicle, it fled along Innbruckstraße in the direction of Neuhaus am Inn (D) despite the flashing blue lights and a follow-up horn. The further escape stretched across the Old Inn Bridge in the direction of Pocking. Finally, the getaway vehicle could only be stopped in the Niederindling area, Pocking. When the vehicle was searched, the police officers found seven adults between the ages of 30 and 36 and three children, aged 5, 9 and 11, all Turkish citizens, in the rear of the vehicle. As a result, the 22-year-old German driver and his 37-year-old passenger from Turkey were temporarily arrested on suspicion of smuggling. Immediately after the arrest, several German police patrols arrived at the detention point and took over the operation as a matter of responsibility. The towed people had to be given first aid on site by the German Red Cross.
