11-year-old in Vienna did not die after an Internet challenge

The findings of the forensic medicine should either be available during the day or not until Monday, said police spokesman Markus Dittrich of the APA. The cause of death therefore remained unclear for the time being.

The spokesman was able to rule out that the boy could have had an accident in the course of a so-called internet challenge, there is no evidence of that. The police also gave no information about any previous illnesses of the eleven-year-old.

Police and rescue workers were alerted by the parents on Saturday morning. An emergency doctor from professional rescue could only determine the death of the student. “Due to the unclear circumstances of death, the Vienna State Criminal Police Office was called in and an autopsy was suggested,” the police said. The surviving relatives who moved from Italy to Vienna not too long ago – the parents and a slightly older sibling – were cared for by a crisis intervention team.
