“Golden” Nußbach now wants to shine at the world finals

“If we call up our performance, then it’s difficult for any opponent to keep up with us,” says Marco Salzberger, coach of Union Nußbach. His fistball players won the national championship title for the fourth time in a row at the Bundesliga “Final3” in Freistadt on Saturday, the eighth title in the club’s history. In the final, Union Freistadt capitulated at 0:4 (4, 5, 5, 5) without a chance in front of the dynamic of the Kremstal women.

Nußbach acted almost flawlessly in all positions under adverse external conditions and a damp playing field and thus forced the Mühlviertlerinnen to take more risks. As a result, the game of the Freistadt women became more and more error-prone despite the home advantage.

End of the season in Brazil

“We have a top squad, the girls are consistently strong. We never let Freistadt develop. That was one of our best games this year,” says Salzberger, who is proud of his team’s reaction after the setback with sixth place in the Champions Cup in Widnau (CH): “My team can be counted on again in the coming season.”

Before that, however, captain Marlene Hieslberger, service attacker Ines Lugerbauer, defense chief Katharina Lackinger and Co are still going to Brazil in two weeks. After a short detour to Rio de Janeiro, the World Tour finale from October 6th to 9th in Curitiba is still on the program.

“This time we have a good group draw in the preliminary round,” says Salzberger, “our goal is to win a medal for the first time.” The Nußbach women’s best placement at a fistball world final tournament was fifth place.
