Elizabeth II had a last tribute at Windsor Castle

The coffin of Isabel II entered the temple followed again by the main members of the royal family, among them the king charles iii and his wife, the queen consort Camila. The Dean of Windsor presided over a purely religious ceremony in which the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Wellby.

During the act, the symbols of the monarchy deposited on the coffin were removed, with the exception of the royal standard -the imperial crown, the orb and the scepter-, to be deposited distributed on the altar.

King Carlos III later deposited on the coffin the color of the queen’s company while the lord chamberlain he broke his wand and placed it on the coffin as a symbol of the end of the Elizabethan era.

As it happened hours before in London, the national anthem, God save the king, served as a conclusion to the last great public act in memory of Elizabeth II. The subsequent burial in the chapel of San Jorge will be carried out in private, according to the Real home.

The chapel has a special symbology for the British crown and, among its recent milestones, is having hosted the wedding of the prince Enrique and his wife, Meghan Markleand the funeral of Elizabeth II’s husband.

The remains of Elizabeth II will rest alongside those of her husband, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 and was initially buried in a temporary grave pending the death of the queen.
