The president said that the episode “was a decision in pursuit of known facts the night before where a minor had been murdered” in Palestine and then expressed that the fact had already been clarified by the Foreign Ministry.
On Thursday, Artzyeli went through – in his own words – a “not very comfortable incident” when President Gabriel Boric called off their scheduled meeting, apparently due to the death at the hands of Israeli security forces of a Palestinian teenager in West Bankfor which the Chilean Foreign Ministry later had to apologize to the diplomat.
The Boric-Artzyeli match was scheduled for that day at the Palace of La Moneda and it was going to consist of the formal presentation of the credentials from the representative of Israel to the president.
Gabriel Boric responds to criticism of anti-Semitism
The Chilean president also referred to the statement issued by the Jewish community in Chile, which accused him of being an “anti-Semite” for the incident with the ambassador.
“Know that like every Chilean and every person who lives in our country, no one will ever be persecuted or intimidated for their ideas, or their world views, or policies; so I want to give that peace of mind,” Boric said.
The president took advantage of the dialogue with the press to establish his position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “We have always said that we must respect the international rightthe borders of 1967″.
With that statement, the president made reference to resolution 67/19 of the UN General Assemblywhich recognizes the borders established between the states of Israel and Palestine prior to the war of June 1967, a war called “War of the six days“.
The Chilean government tried to repair the incident and announced that the meeting between Gabriel Boric and Ambassador Artzyeli, for the diplomat to present his credentials, will take place on Friday the 30th.
